Andreas Seltzer verwies auf die zentrale
Bedeutung des Grotesken in Kata Ungers Werk.
Die Bildteppiche sind eine groteske
Überzeichnung, eine andersartige Beschreibung
der Wirklichkeit, um etwas im Kern zu
treffen. Es gibt ebenso den Bezug zur
Tradition des Mediums, den erzählerischen
Bildteppichen des Mittelalters, wie zur
aktuellen Text-, Bilder- und Zeichenflut.
Ungers Bildwelten haben nichts mit "Fantasy"
zu tun. Eher werden in
ihnen z.B. Foucaults Heterotopien, Döblins
Roman "Berge Meere und Giganten" oder
Agambens "Homo sacer" zu einem eigenen Bild
verwoben.
"Die Textur (Struktur) der gewebten Bilder
erscheint wie eine Analogie zur punkthaften
Auflösung des Bildschirms ... Der Bildteppich
hat einen Anfang und ein Ende." (K.U.)
Prozess. Nicht alles steht von Anfang an fest.
Kata Ungers Bildteppiche erschöpfen sich nicht
im Abbilden des Tagesgeschehens. Sie sind
gerade deshalb hoch politisch.

In
the second exhibition in the new rooms Walden
presents art exhibitions of tapestries and
drawings by the Berlin artist Kata Unger.
Andreas Seltzer referred to the central
significance of the grotesque in Kata Unger's
work. The tapestries are a grotesque
exaggeration, a different description of
reality, to hit something in the core. There
is also the relation to the tradition of the
medium, the narrative tapestries of the Middle
Ages, as well as to the current flood of text,
images and characters. Unger's imagery has
nothing to do with "fantasy". Rather, in them,
e.g. Foucault's heterotopias, Döblin's novel
"Mountains Seas and Giants" or Agamben's "Homo
sacer" are interwoven into a picture of their
own.
"The texture (structure) of the woven images
looks like an analogy to the punctiform
resolution of the screen ... The tapestry has
a beginning and an end." (K.U.)
The technique of image weaving produces a
different kind of image finding. There is
always a beginning, the work grows from bottom
to top (or even rotated by 90 degrees), a
variety of drawings and notes accompanies the
process. Not everything is fixed from the
beginning. Kata Unger's tapestries are not
exhausted in depicting the day's events.
That's why they are highly political.
