<p>Für die Ausstellungsreihe >>EDITh<< – Wand-
und Schaufensterzeitung, von Walden Kunstausstellungen
geht Birgit Szepanski auf den historischen Aspekt von
Wandzeitungen als Mittel der politischen
Meinungsäußerung ein. Ihre Installation ist im
Schaufenster und Innenraum zu sehen: Auf einen Vorhang
sind Archivfotos genäht; selbstentworfene und genähte
Fahnen, die auf einer (fiktiven) Demonstration genutzt
werden könnten, hängen im Raum und korrespondieren mit
den Archivfotos.<br>
Mit ihren textilen Objekten schafft die Künstlerin
Referenzen zur Geschichte der Umgebung des
Ausstellungsortes Walden in Berlin-Neukölln. Parallel
dazu zeigt Szepanski ihre Bild- und Textrecherche zu
Widerstandsgruppen und Demonstrationen in den 1930er
Jahren in Berlin-Neukölln (u.a. zu Hellmut Bock und
Helene Nathan).* <br>
»Was vom Gestern übrig blieb (und sich in Bewegung
setzt)« ist der Titel der Installation und eine
Fragestellung, der Birgit Szepanski in einem Text zur
Ausstellung nachgeht. Es sind Fragen zur
Zeitwahrnehmung, zur Stadt und zum politischen Agieren,
die die Künstlerin stellt: Existieren das Neue und die
Hoffnung nur in einer zukunftsgerichteten Gegenwart oder
auch in der Vergangenheit? Wie treten vergangene
Hoffnungen im Hier und Jetzt in Erscheinung? Finden wir
›revolutionäre Augenblicke‹ beim Gehen und Erinnern
durch die Stadt? <br>

<p><font color="#408080">For the exhibition series
>> EDITh << - Wall and Shop Window
Exhibition, by Walden Art Exhibitions, Birgit
Szepanski deals with the historical aspect of wall
newspapers as a means of political expression. Her
installation can be seen in the shop window and in the
interior: archive photos are sewn onto a curtain;
Self-designed and sewn flags that could be used on a
(fictional) demonstration hang in the room and
correspond with the archive photos.<br>
With her textile objects, the artist creates
references to the history of the surroundings of the
Walden exhibition site in Berlin-Neukölln. At the same
time, Szepanski shows her photo and text research on
resistance groups and demonstrations in
Berlin-Neukölln in the 1930s (including Hellmut Bock
and Helene Nathan). *<br>
"What was left of yesterday (and starts moving)" is
the title of the installation and a question that
Birgit Szepanski explores in a text accompanying the
exhibition. The artist poses questions about the
perception of time, the city and political action: do
the new and hope only exist in a future-oriented
present or also in the past? How do past hopes
manifest in the here and now? Do we find
'revolutionary moments' while walking and remembering
through the city?</font></p>
